Progesterone Producing Granulosa Cell Tumor: a Case Report
author
Abstract:
The granulosa cell tumor is the most common malignant functioning tumor of the ovary. When functional, granulosa tumor almost always are estrogenic although rare tumors are androgenic. Progesterone producing by these tumors has only been reported twice. We report a case of granulosa cell tumor in a 7 years old girl with precocious puberty who represent the first case of progesterone producing by juvenile type of granulosa tumor and the first one in childhood, comparing with two cases which had been reported early, clinical finding in this patient suggests firstly: There is no relationship between progesterone producing by granulosa tumor with patient's age or tumor's histologic pattern secondly: Progesterone may be the choice tumor marker in special conditions and the assay of this hormone will be advisable in every patient with granulosa cell tumor.
